So I have started running again in 'training' for the Canberra marathon next year (see here). I did about 4.8km the other day in around 32 minutes, which is a major improvement on my first run, but today will be a test.
My Brother-in-law and some of his workmates have devised the 'Lake Stakes' which involves a number of them running a course from the Boat Hire place down on the lake around to the Yarralumla Yacht Club and back again. The course is 5.8km and runners are given 3 runs to work out a handicap time so that when the races occur, everyone starts staggered and everyone should finish around the same time.
The $2 entry fee is added to a pool that the winner takes away at the end of the race. When you run faster than your handicap base time, you add 15 seconds to your handicap...and so on.
The rules are intricate ;)
I am hoping to do 32 minutes for the whole 5.8km today at lunch if possible....I'll let you know!
